Family Voices Indiana: Children’s Disabilities and Special Needs

At the December 2, 2011 agency meeting, we were introduced to Jan Labas, FamilyVoices Indiana.  Family Voices is a national organization which just arrived in Indiana in July.  They serve families with children who have disabilities or special healthcare needs.  They provide information and assistance in acquiring various pubic services, such as First Steps, Medicare and Medicaid.  They also help with special equipment needs and transitional issues.  Family Voices is state-funded, and all services are free.

Crossroad Children’s Home Programs

Crossroad has a new home-based program, whereby kids can receive services while staying in their home; there is also a program to transition kids back home more smoothly.  This program is already fully-funded by a grant. (This organization will be the featured speaker at next month’s meeting!) Update from Kylie Cody. (Crossroad provides psychological, psychosocial, psychiatric and educational care for children.)

Health Department Focuses on Lead Poisoning Prevention Education for Children

the Health Department has been focusing in on lead poisoning prevention.  Burmese children seem to have high incidence of lead poisoning.  Information is available in Burmese and English. (The Health Department provides free lead testing for children.) Update from Amy Hesting.
